Tottenham finished as Postecoglou to hand out first-ever appearance v Newcastle
Tottenham supporters are in uproar on social media upon learning what Ange Postecoglou plans to do against Newcastle United.
Spurs will host Newcastle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (4 January), with the pressure building on Postecoglou to deliver consistent results in North London.
However, with number one goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario already missing, deputy Fraser Forster is suffering from illness and also looks set to be unavailable for selection on the weekend.
According to talkSPORT (3 January), Brandon Austin is in line to make his Tottenham debut against the Magpies, and the news has not gone down well with the supporters.
Tottenham to hand first-team debut to Brandon Austin
The 26-year-old has plied his trade in North London for nine years but has yet to make a single competitive appearance in England.
Austin last made a competitive outing in 2021 while on loan with MLS outfit Orlando City, but despite his lack of game time, Postecoglou was believed to have named the goalkeeper his second-choice option during pre-season.
However, news of his debut has led Tottenham supporters to believe the match against Newcastle United is over before a ball has been kicked, with one supporter saying: “Bro Brandon Austin in net, we are finished, brother.”
While one fan believes Spurs will be “Better off getting [the match] cancelled”, another supporter shared this sentiment, asking: “Is just forfeiting the three points an option?”

Austin put pen to paper on a five-year deal in May, extending his stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2029.
Although the supporters are unhappy with the latest development, taking out their frustrations on a player set for a landmark appearance for Spurs is counter-productive.
The match against Newcastle United is a monumental occasion for Austin, and should he help Tottenham keep a clean sheet and secure the three points, the tune among the supporters will soon change.
