Tottenham final Premier League position predicted by supercomputer after Man City loss

Tottenham suffered their first defeat in four Premier League games on Wednesday as Manchester City secured a 1-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

An Erling Haaland tap-in with barely 12 minutes gone in North London was the difference in helping Pep Guardiola’s side take three points.

This saw the Lilywhites fall to a first Premier League defeat in February after securing wins against Ipswich Town and Manchester United in their last two outings.

This defeat could prove to have a damming impact on the rest of the season in N17, with a supercomputer now predicting Spurs’ final league position.

Where are Tottenham predicted to finish in Premier League?

It has been far from a dream campaign for Ange Postecoglou, who has regularly come under fire for his side’s performances.

The Australian hasn’t been helped by regular injury concerns which have ripped his side apart, particularly in defence, for large spells.

This could be set to change, with Cristian Romero returning to training this week, regardless of a hard-fought defeat against Man City on 26 February.

It is this defeat that will have an impact on the Premier League finish that the Lilywhites could secure despite any potential returning stars.

An Opta supercomputer has now simulated the rest of the season, which has predicted Spurs to finish in 13th place with an expected points tally of 49.11.

Predicted positionTeamExpected points

This predicts Postecoglou’s side to finish behind both Crystal Palace and Brentford, but ahead of the likes of Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United and West Ham United.

It is fair to say that this would represent a failure for the North London outfit, who are currently handed a 0.04 per cent chance of securing European football.

If this prediction was to come true by the end of May, Spurs would finish upwards of 15 points outside of the top four, which was the aim for the N17 club at the start of the season.

Tottenham must work to prove predictions wrong

There has been plenty wrong down Hotspur Way this season, but with little to play for across the rest of the season, domestically Postecoglou has the chance to finish on a positive note.

The Aussie is slowly welcoming back players from lengthy absences, with Wilson Odobert being the latest to come into the starting 11 against City.

With this impact slowly set to drip into the side in North London, there is every chance that the end of the season could be exciting for the Lilywhites.

Spurs have a long way to go in order to finish the season even in the top half, but they need to use this prediction as fuel to drive them forward and up the Premier League table.
