Tottenham: Eric Dier admits return to Portugal is ‘inevitable’
Tottenham defender Eric Dier has revealed that he plans on returning to Portugal one day, suggesting the move is “inevitable.”
Dier began his footballing career with Sporting CP after moving to Portugal as a child. He broke into Sporting’s first team before making the switch to Spurs in 2014.
With his Tottenham contract set to expire next summer, the 29-year-old has now expressed his desire to one day make a return to the country where it all began.

“One day I am sure I will be back,” he is quoted by PA as saying (via The Standard, 14 November).
“I think it is inevitable. If my wife wants to, we’ll come back one day to live when I have finished my career.
“Sporting is my club, it will always be my club, it’s where I spent 12 years. Portugal as well for me is my home. I’m 29 so I hope I have a lot of years left to play. I’m still young. Football is my priority.”
Ex-Spurs right-back Alan Hutton told Tottenham News:
“I think they will want to bring someone in,” he said.
“If you look at Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, who have you got there that is going to come in to replace them? There have been a lot of players that have been there for a number of years now, and it’s not quite worked out.

“Dier has been with the club for almost a decade and you would have thought his Tottenham career was over in the last few weeks.
“He’s come back into the fold but ultimately, it’s probably time for a move and something different. Ange Postecoglou will want to bring in his own signings.”
