Tottenham delivered major Son injury update ahead of Europa League final

Tottenham are one game away from their first Europa League final, with a trip to Bodo/Glimt standing in their way.

Odds are stacked in Tottenham’s favour to progress, but they would be wise not to underestimate the Norwegian side, who have an exceptional record on their home turf.

Nonetheless, a final in Bilbao beckons as Spurs attempt to end their 17-year-long trophy drought and turn around what has so far been a miserable season.

Even the ultimate prize may not be enough to save Ange Postecoglou, but he will be hoping he can take a near full-strength squad to the North of Spain.

Tottenham captain could return for Tottenham Europa League final

Son Heung-min has been out of action since early April after suffering a foot injury, missing both Frankfurt games and the first-leg clash against Bodo last week in the process.

When questioned, Postecoglou has been coy about the gravity of his injury, often avoiding giving a definitive timeline for the forward’s return date.

To the relief of many Spurs fans, news has emerged that the South Korea captain could finally make his comeback in time for the final.

Journalist Paul O Keefe responded to a question about Son’s injury on X (4 May) with the comment: “I was told Son will be in the final.”

Following the disappointment of James Maddison’s recent injury news, the return of their club captain should they reach the final will provide a huge boost to the squad.

Son could prove to be the difference for Spurs

Son’s influence on Spurs has undoubtedly dwindled this season, often in the image of a team that has largely failed to deceive.

As the leader of the dressing room, his erratic and often invisible displays have not inspired confidence of those around him, with plenty of flat performances leaving the Tottenham’s league form in dire straits.
