Tottenham ‘delighted’ as midfielder officially agrees terms at Hotspur Way
George Feeney signed his first professional contract with Tottenham on Tuesday, the club have confirmed.
The Lilywhites announced [21 January] their delight at the 17-year-old midfielder putting pen to paper on a deal at Hotspur Way after joining from Glentoran last year.
Since then, Feeney has become a regular player for Spurs’ Under-18s side, scoring twice in 12 appearances at that level, having once become Glentoran’s youngest-ever goalscorer at the age of 15.
The youngster has already represented both Wales and Northern Ireland at youth level.
Tottenham young ranks continue to grow
Ange Postecoglou has an insane amount of young talent at his disposal right now, with the likes of Archie Gray, Will Lankshear, Mikey Moore and Lucas Bergvall all involved with the first team.
That is without mentioning youngsters such as Alfie Dorrington, who has just been loaned out to Aberdeen, and Ashley Phillips, who has been impressing on loan at Stoke City.
Of course, with the current state of the first team, it would be incredibly cruel to throw Feeney straight into the action, but it is still hugely positive to see Spurs securing players for the future.
Feeney has yet to be involved with the senior set-up in an official manner, though he has likely been involved in training due to his quick development and very clear talent.
Supporters will need to keep an eye on the 17-year-old midfielder, who could be breaking into the first-team squad much sooner than they may realise, especially if he continues to impress.
With the likes of James Maddison, Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Sarr all in the squad, he would learn a lot from being close to their first-teamers at Hotspur Way.
Postecoglou must be very careful with his development, obviously, but it is still really good news for the future of the club and Feeney that a deal has been agreed with the Lilywhites.
In other Tottenham news, Ange Postecoglou was ripped apart live on air after making a “bizarre” decision recently.
