Tottenham deal to sign Osimhen mooted by MOTD pundit after Levy claim

Tottenham and Daniel Levy must break the current wage structure to bring Victor Osimhen to North London.

That is according to Danny Murphy, writing via the Mail on Sunday [2 February, page 86], who believes Spurs still need to recruit some star players to be able to compete at the top level.

The Napoli loanee was available during the summer transfer window, with the Lilywhites previously linked with the player [Football London], but a move to Hotspur Way has never materialised.

“Spurs need to sprinkle their team with stardust to compete at the elite level and that means breaking their wage structure to recruit world-class players who are at their peak today,” the Match of the Day pundit said.

“Victor Osimhen is an example. He is 26 and would have made an immediate impact, even on loan from Napoli. Levy would have winced at the wage demands and so the Nigerian striker is now on loan at Galatasaray.”

Tottenham to sign Victor Osimhen?

Osimhen’s move to Galatasaray during the summer was a very odd move, especially given the amount of interest in him from around the world, including multiple Premier League teams.

The 26-year-old is a force of nature, notching 17 goals in his first 21 appearances in Turkey, having already netted 76 times in 133 appearances for Napoli.

There is absolutely no denying that the Nigerian would immediately improve the current squad at Ange Postecoglou’s disposal, but Levy is rarely one to open his pockets for a monster signing.

Of course, Spurs had to splash £65million on Dominic Solanke [BBC Sport], who has been a breath of fresh air since his arrival, but many fans would have preferred Levy to go all-out for Osimhen.

There is likely to be another chance to secure the star striker’s signature in the summer, but unless Levy is willing to splash the cash, he is not a player who will arrive in North London.
