Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris speaks out ahead of potential transfer

Hugo Lloris has been with Tottenham since 2012 but is expected to finally end his long-term stay in North London this summer.

As reported by the Evening Standard (1 June), there are a number of potential destinations for the 36-year-old goalkeeper, including his ex-club Nice.

Lloris was born and raised in Nice before he graduated from the Ligue 1 club’s academy. The World Cup winner left his boyhood club for Lyon in 2008 before his eventual move to the Premier League.

Ahead of a potential move back to South France, the veteran goalkeeper has been speaking with the radio station, BFM Nice Cote D’Azur.

“I am very attached to the city of Nice, as you know, I demonstrate it through various projects outside of football,” Lloris said.

“The club has to finish the season first, there are two goalkeepers of high quality, including one that I’m good friends with in Kasper Schmeichel. You can understand that it’s difficult to speak about these kinds of subjects.

“I’ll let fate handle things. But once again, I renew my attachment to this club and this city”.

An emotional goodbye

Lloris has been a brilliant servant to Tottenham for a long time and has given us the best years of his career. Although his form has declined in recent seasons, there was a time when he was one of the world’s top goalkeepers and he always stuck by the club.

Spurs fans should be forever grateful for his contributions. However, with just a year left on his current contract, and the rebuilding job which needs to take place in North London, it would be best for both parties to go their separate ways.

The goalkeeper’s potential last appearance for the club was a 6-1 defeat in Newcastle, which is a disappointing end to his time with us, however, he will forever be remembered as a modern-day legend for Tottenham.

For his sake, it would be fantastic to see him end his career where it began, in Nice, in his home country which he proudly captained to a World Cup victory in 2018.

Whatever happens, Tottenham will always be a second home for Lloris.
