Tottenham agree personal terms with Hajduk Split defender Luka Vuskovic for new transfer – Fabrizio Romano

Tottenham are closing in on the signing of Hajduk Split centre-back Luka Vuskovic with personal terms already agreed upon, according to Fabrizio Romano.

According to the Italian transfer guru, taking to his personal Twitter account (10 September), the paperwork for another new signing for Spurs is being finalized as Vuskovic only wants Tottenham despite interest from five top clubs.

However, the Evening Standard report on Sunday 10 September that given Vuskovic’s young age at 16, he will remain at Hajduk until he turns 18 to continue his development before arriving in North London with the deal rumoured to be around £12m.

Romano tweeted on Sunday (10 September): “Exclusive: Tottenham are on the verge of signing Croatian CB top talent Luka Vuskovic.

“After top project for his development, Vuskovic only wants Spurs — despite interest from 5 more top clubs.

“Personal terms agreed, clubs finalising paperwork.

“Here we go.”

Superb business

It’s always refreshing to see a Premier League team take a risky punt on an extremely talented young footballer from foreign clubs and that’s what Tottenham are attempting here in a smart and sensible transfer deal.

Vuskovic is indeed one of the most gifted players of his age group in Croatia and a defender earmarked for bigger and better things on the European stage very soon.

The 16-year-old made eight appearances in the Croatian top flight last season and has been chased by teams around Europe, including Liverpool, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, so the evidence suggests Spurs are getting themselves an absolute coup.

Vuskovic helped Hajduk win the Croatian Cup and became the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer after finding the net just days after his 16th birthday.

However, given he is only 16, it is perfectly understandable that Tottenham complete the deal now but wait a while longer before he makes the move and while it may be an official European rule, it is the best move for his development to stay at Hadjuk and enjoy more first-team exposure.

It is not yet clear when he will officially join Spurs and it is likely to be when he turns 18 but he is certainly set to be the next exciting addition to Postecoglou’s new look defence in North London.

This is superb business from Tottenham and represents a stunning recruitment drive that is being undertaken under the Australian manager.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs have reached an agreement with Grasshopper Club Zurich for the permanent sale of one talented academy product.
