Thomas Frank already told conditions for sack after Tottenham announcement

Tottenham have announced Thomas Frank as their new manager on a three-year deal.

The Danish manager has made the move to north London, leaving Brentford behind.

Although Ange Postecoglou guided the Lilywhites to the Europa League trophy this season, a 17th-place finish in the Premier League proved not to be enough to save his job.

The sacking rubbed some supporters up the wrong way, though, with questions over what more he could have done to secure his future.

With that in mind, what the expectations are for Frank next season are yet to be seen.

Harry Kewell sets out early Frank expectations

While no one could defend the Premier League form of Tottenham this season, the North London outfit certainly didn’t have the easiest ride.

Postecoglou’s side were plagued with injuries, leaving the Australian very short at times, in both numbers and experience.

As Europa League progression continued, it became clear that the Lilywhites had to put all their efforts into the competition, knowing that it could be a route to Champions League football.

While that risk paid off for the achievement, it didn’t do anything for Postecoglou’s fate.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (12 June, 16:25), Harry Kewell was asked what Frank’s aims will be at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.

His answer was blunt as he replied: “Well, the way it’s going on, they’ve got to be finishing top four, otherwise he’s going to be in trouble.

“If he doesn’t finish top four, if he doesn’t win a trophy, well then, how come Ange got the sack if he doesn’t?

“So, I think he’s an unbelievable coach, I think he’s done so well at Brentford, but it’s a tough gig.”

Daniel Levy backed into corner at Tottenham

Tottenham had a disastrous season, and it’s not surprising that Daniel Levy felt a big change was needed.

However, without looking at himself, there have to be questions about how much will be changed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

As Kewell says, if winning a trophy wasn’t enough to save Postecoglou this season, then what are the expectations for next term going to be?

Frank had a better season with Brentford.

Naturally, Spurs will know how necessary it is to push further up the table, but if another season of Champions League football isn’t achieved, or a trophy, then surely he would have had a less successful season than Postecoglou.

The Spurs chief has made his decision now, so Tottenham have to look forward, but Levy has to be realistic about what the expectations are next season and what his role in supporting that will be.

Frank may be in trouble before he has even started.
