‘This is what I’ve been told is the latest on Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham return’
talkSPORT presenter Alan Brazil has confirmed that Tottenham haven’t made contact with Mauricio Pochettino about a potential N17 return.
Following the sacking of Thomas Frank, and indeed for some time before that, Pochettino has been linked with a return to Tottenham.
He remains one of Spurs’ most successful managers of recent times, and is well-loved among the Lilywhites fanbase for what he achieved during his five-and-a-half-year stint as manager between 2014-2019.
However, relatively short spells with Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea followed after his Tottenham exit, and he’s now taken his first steps into international management, having been appointed USA boss in the summer of 2024.
As such, he’s preparing to lead the USMNT into a home World Cup this summer, but crucially, his contract with them expires following the conclusion of the tournament.

What has Alan Brazil said about Mauricio Pochettino Spurs return?
With Igor Tudor in place as interim head coach until the end of the season, Tottenham know what their short-term future in the dugout looks like, but not yet their long-term.
Spurs’ sporting director Johan Lange hasn’t closed the door on the possibility for Tudor to get the gig on a permanent basis, but he and his team are going to have to show a lot more than what they did in his first game against Arsenal.
Pochettino would be a hugely popular appointment if he does come back to N17, but after what Brazil has said on talkSPORT on Wednesday, that doesn’t currently appear likely.
“The latest is, they haven’t even spoken to him (Pochettino),” said Brazil.
“So, I don’t know what they are doing, and I don’t think they know what they are doing.”
Pochettino could be ideal choice if ENIC deliver on spending promise
Pochettino took Tottenham as high and as close as they’ve ever been to winning both the Premier League, and the Champions League.
In his five full seasons as Spurs boss, his side recorded finishes of: fifth, third, second, third and fourth respectively, and even went all the way to the Champions League final in 2018-19 before losing to Liverpool.
‘Never go back’, is the phrase some wise individual is said to have coined many moons ago, but in the case of football and emotions, that’s a very tough mantra to live by.
And with Joe Lewis and Tottenham’s ENIC ownership pledging to rip up their wage structure and increase spending if they stay in the Premier League this season, then a fully transfer-backed Pochettino side could bring those glory days back.
