Tamworth have jackpot stolen as greedy Tottenham called out
Justin Allen has called out Tottenham as “greedy” following their desperate FA Cup victory against Tamworth on Sunday.
The Lilywhites were drawing 0-0 with the National League side at the end of the 90 minutes on 12 January, but extra time saw fitness and class take over as it finished 3-0 to Spurs.
The Sun journalist, Allen was left fuming saying Tamworth were robbed of a replay jackpot by the changes enforced by greedy Premier League sides.
Posting on his X account, he said: “I’m fuming. I’m really angry right now. Tamworth’s incredible effort, what a performance against Tottenham Hotspur.
“Seriously to get a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes and actually, they had a couple of chances to win it. Thoroughly deserved a replay but of course, those numbnuts at the FA have scrapped them and the reason why they’ve scrapped them is because of pressure from clubs like Tottenham to get rid of them.
“There’s too many games they complain. It congests their fixture list. By the way, I’ve just been doing some number-crunching. Today was Tamworth’s 33rd game this season, 33rd. Tottenham, it was their 31st. So actually the National League club have played two games more, that’s just to put things into context.
“Had that gone to a replay like it used to, Tamworth could have banked something around £500,000 upwards. Half a million, maybe £750,000 but certainly half a million pounds they would have got.
“But it’s been robbed because it’s all about the Premier League. Premier League clubs you know, constantly complaining about fixtures and yet, they’re playing in the expanded European competitions, which by the way, is a joke. The set-up of the Champions League, the Europa League and the Conference League this year is absolutely farcical.
“But of course, Tottenham were one of the teams that wanted the European Super League. So it’s clubs like Tottenham that have actually denied clubs like Tamworth their chance of a money-spinning replay, it’s sheer greed.
“But my blood boils when I see teams like Tamworth denied what is rightfully theirs. A replay.”
Tottenham overcome Tamworth in the FA Cup
One thing is certain, Ange Postecoglou will certainly be glad his side didn’t have to go to a replay after their performance against Tamworth, it was well below what was expected of his Lilywhites side.
However, you do have to feel a bit for the National League side who just didn’t have the legs to play for the extra 30 minutes.

It’s hardly surprising given they’re a part-time team and while the Lambs will have earned some good money from their FA Cup run, they certainly would have earned plenty more from a replay through gate receipts at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and TV money once again.
The scoreline flattered Spurs in the end and although the boss seemed to think that was acceptable, he will surely be under plenty of stress as his side looks ahead to the North London Derby.
