Stan Collymore calls out James Maddison as Tottenham make announcement
Stan Collymore has sent a message to James Maddison given his performances under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham.
The England international, in the 2024/25 Premier League season, scored nine goals and provided seven assists in 31 appearances.
He started just 21 games with Postecoglou getting him off the bench on 10 occasions.

Collymore unsure about Maddison future under Thomas Frank
Tottenham announced Thomas Frank as their manager this week, and that could have ramifications for Maddison, believes Collymore.
He believes that the former Leicester City attacker talks a lot, but does not deliver what’s expected from him.
While Maddison shared a good relationship with Postecoglou, things may be different for him with Frank in charge.
Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
---|---|---|---|
Leicester | 203 | 55 | 41 |
Tottenham | 75 | 16 | 21 |
Norwich | 53 | 16 | 13 |
Coventry | 42 | 5 | 5 |
Aberdeen FC | 17 | 2 | 7 |
Collymore believes that the Frank-Maddison situation is one to keep an eye out for in the coming weeks and months.
He said: “Someone like James Maddison talks a lot, but he does not deliver enough over the season. He was one player that appeared to have a good relationship with Ange, so it will be interesting to see how Frank views him. That is something for readers to keep an eye on for readers.
“It must be remembered that Tottenham probably need 10 more wins next season compared to last if they are to qualify for the Champions League via the Premier League. And I think that Frank has more strings in his bow to improve the club’s level going forward when compared to Ange, who was tactically inflexible for the most part.”

Tottenham are unlikely to find any issues with Maddison
Collymore’s scepticism about Maddison’s future under Frank at Tottenham is bizarre given his consistently impressive career statistics and versatility.
With 203 appearances, 55 goals and 41 assists at Leicester, and 75 appearances, 16 goals, and 21 assists at Tottenham, including nine goals and seven assists in 31 games during the 2024/25 season, the England international has proven his attacking midfield prowess.
His ability to create chances, score, and adapt to roles like No. 10 or wide midfielder showcases a flexibility that aligns well with Frank’s systems at Brentford.
Collymore’s claim that Maddison “does not deliver enough” ignores his consistent output, even with limited starts under Postecoglou.
Frank, known for maximising players’ potential, is likely to foster a strong working relationship with Maddison, leveraging his vision and creativity to drive Tottenham’s Champions League push, making Collymore’s doubts seem unfounded and overly critical.
