Son Heung-min reacts as Tottenham reach Europa League final without him

Son Heung-min has endured a miserable campaign at Tottenham this season.

The South Korean forward has notched 11 goals and 12 assists for Spurs in 43 matches in all competitions in an injury-hit campaign.

The 32-year-old has been a shadow of his former self and his leadership skills have not helped turn around Ange Postecoglou’s situation recently.

Amid the inconsistency of his performances, he has been linked with an exit from North London but he could be given one last hurrah before a potential departure.

Son reacts to Tottenham reaching Europa League final

Son was among several players to miss out with injury as Spurs confirmed their place in the Europa League final with a 2-0 win over Bodo/Glimt.

Goals from Dominic Solanke and Pedro Porro gave the Lilywhites a 5-1 advantage on aggregate as the veteran was sidelined with fellow absentees James Maddison, Radu Dragusin and Lucas Bergvall.

The N17 club took to Instagram with a message, saying: “We are going to Bilbao!!!”

The club captain reacted by liking the post.

Tottenham need Son back for the final

Spurs need Son to recover from his injury when the final rolls around on 21 May as he has proven himself as a big match player over the years.

Despite his struggles this season, he could be a difference-maker against Manchester United in the all-English showcase as he has a penchant for goals and assists in the biggest games.

His starting berth is far from guaranteed but even if he comes on from the bench, he could be a game changer for the Lilywhites if the match is not going in their favour.

There is no reason to risk him for the remaining Premier League matches because Postecoglou’s side cannot achieve anything from their league position at this point.

They should target his return for the final, giving him limited minutes in the build-up to the occasion so that he is fully match fit and ready to make an impact for the clash against the Red Devils.

With speculation surrounding his future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it could be the perfect goodbye for the ex-Bayer Leverkusen man if he is to depart in the summer.
