Sky Sports issue breaking update on Bentancur situation in Tottenham v Liverpool
Rodrigo Bentancur was still being assessed by medical personnel in the Tottenham dressing room at half-time of the game against Liverpool, Mark Chapman has revealed.
The Sky Sports presenter (8 January, 21:00) issued the news during the break of the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg tie.
Tottenham have themselves issued an update via the club’s official X page (8 January), confirming Bentancur was conscious and communicating in a positive update.
The Uruguayan went down in the early stages of the contest having attempted to stoop for a header, and was immediately treated on the pitch following an alertness from his teammates.
Chapman said: “The latest we have on Rodrigo Bentancur after that awful looking injury in the first half is that when he was stretchered off, the doctors accompanied him to the dressing room, and he is still with the doctors. That is the only update we have at the moment.”
Tottenham shortly afterwards added: “We can confirm Rodrigo is conscious, talking and will go to hospital for further checks.”
Tottenham ace Bentancur will be further assessed in hospital
The optimistic news on Bentancur is that he is now conscious and talking. He remains in the best possible hands following what was a very uneasy looking injury.
Tottenham’s players have done very well to continue playing in the best way possible, and they will be regularly updated with Bentancur’s condition.
The midfield man has struggled this season, having suffered a head injury earlier on in the campaign and recently returned from a lengthy suspension.
Brennan Johnson came onto the field for Bentancur after 15 minutes of the match – eight of which saw the Uruguay international being assessed on the pitch.
An outpouring of support from fans of Tottenham and the wider football world has already been delivered to the midfielder as he now begins his recovery.
In other Tottenham news, the battle is on to secure a transfer target in January against stiff competition.
