Sky pundit cannot believe what Postecoglou did in Tottenham thrashing v Liverpool
Ange Postecoglou oversaw Tottenham’s 19th Premier League defeat of the season as they were hammered 5-1 by Liverpool on Sunday.
The Reds’ victory over Spurs ensured Arne Slot’s men clinched their second top-flight title in five years, while Tottenham still sit 16th in the Premier League.
A top-half finish is now beyond the North Londoners’ reach, as they sit 13 points behind 10th-place Bournemouth with just four games remaining.
Tottenham’s only hopes of enjoying success lie in the Europa League, where they take on Bodo/Glimt in the semi-finals.

Postecoglou hammered over team selection v Liverpool
Postecoglou chose to field a weakened lineup for Tottenham’s trip to Liverpool, clearly with the North London Club’s Europa League run in mind.
Opponent | Result |
Wolves (A) | 4-2 L |
Frankfurt (A) | 0-1 W |
Nottingham Forest (H) | 1-2 L |
Liverpool (A) | 5-1 L |
But Stephen Warnock was left baffled by the Australian’s decision and told Sky Sports Premier League [28 April]: “Why would you do that against Liverpool? Away from home as well.
“I’d rather be trying to win this game against Liverpool and go into [the Europa League semi-final] with momentum, and he was very, very lucky yesterday, Ange, that Liverpool treated the second half almost like an exhibition.
“It could have been seven, eight or nine. It really could. They were that bad yesterday. What effect would that have leading into the Europa League semi-final, then? You could almost ruin that game by your decision in this game. It was very bizarre to me. I found it very strange.”
Spurs have failed to win in the Premier League since their 3-1 win over Southampton on 6 April and have since endured three successive defeats in the top flight.
Tottenham must not let their heads drop ahead of Bodo Glimt clash
As alluded to by Warnock, Spurs’ heavy defeat at Liverpool could have been even worse, while the Merseyside giants already had one eye on their title celebrations in the second half.
But while the pundit believes that if Tottenham had lost by a wider margin at Anfield, it could have ruined their Europa League chances, Postecoglou’s men must already be careful not to let their heads drop.
Although Postecoglou will field a stronger lineup at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday as the North London club’s 5-1 defeat at Anfield was humiliating.
Spurs must now work incredibly hard to put such a big setback behind them and head into the biggest game of their season so far with confidence.
The Premier League outfit should ultimately have enough quality at their disposal to beat Norwegian club Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League semi-finals.
But Sunday’s humiliation at Anfield has certainly not bolstered Postecoglou’s chances of success in Europe.
