Sherwood and Abebayor issue claim on Postecoglou sack as Arsenal beat Tottenham

Tim Sherwood and Emmanuel Adebayor both do not want to see Tottenham sacking Ange Postecoglou despite the loss against Arsenal.

Despite taking the lead, Spurs suffered a 2-1 defeat against the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium, adding pressure on the Australian.

After the result, the Lilywhites find themselves in 13th place with 24 points after 21 games in the Premier League.

Speaking on Premier League Productions after the game, Sherwood said on 15 January at 10:23pm: “He knows he’s the manager. The buck stops with him. Wasn’t blaming referees. He’s realistic.

“We’ve looked at managers look for every excuse under the sun. I admire him for that. You’ve got to give this guy time for the players to play in his identity. They are missing key players.

“If they manage to win the cup, the hierarchy will deem this season as a success. If they finish 13th in the league, they will deem that as a failure because the Premier League is the bread and butter.”

Adebayor then chimed in: “Arsene Wenger used to say: ‘Keep the ball on the floor. play this way.’ This is the type of manager Ange is. The players have to do better.”

Ange Postecoglou is more to blame than the Tottenham players

While Sherwood and Adebayor’s support for Postecoglou resonates with the idea of giving a manager time to instil his philosophy, the reality at Spurs presents a more complex picture.

The Australian has been at the helm long enough for his style of play to be evident, yet the results, particularly in the league, have been underwhelming.

Despite showing commendable performances against top-tier teams like Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal, the consistency required to secure victories, especially against supposedly weaker opponents, is markedly absent.

This inconsistency has left Spurs languishing in 13th place, a position that starkly contrasts with the expectations at a club of their stature.

While both Sherwood and Adebayor rightly commend Postecoglou’s approach and leadership, the lack of wins against teams they should beat raises questions about the effectiveness of his strategy or the players’ adaptation to it.
