Ruben Amorim in ‘major’ Man United concern ahead of Tottenham showdown
Ruben Amorim has caused concern at Manchester United ahead of the UEFA Europa League final against Tottenham.
Ange Postecoglou’s side will take on the Red Devils in the Europa League final at the Estadio de San Mamés on Wednesday (21 May).
The domestic form of both sides has been so poor that questions have been raised about the winners of the showpiece in Bilbao qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.
Tottenham are 17th in the Premier League, with Amorim’s side just one place above. As a result, the futures of Ange Postecoglou and his counterpart have been under the spotlight, adding to the intrigue and drama of the upcoming clash.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe concerned about Amorim
Postecoglou’s turbulent tenure as Tottenham manager is approaching two years, which has already seen the Australian outlast the previous three permanent managers in the role.
The final would be Postecoglou’s 100th game in charge of Tottenham, whereas it would only be Amorim’s 41st at United after his arrival last November.
Manager | Time in Post | Matches Played | Points Per Game |
Ange Postecoglou | 687d | 99 | 1.54 |
Antonio Conte | 509d | 76 | 1.78 |
Nuno Espirito Santo | 123d | 17 | 1.65 |
Jose Mourinho | 516d | 86 | 1.77 |
Amorim was brought in to replace Erik Ten Haag, who left United in 14th place in the Premier League. However, he has been unable to make the impact he has wanted, with the Red Devils now two places lower.
As reported by The Sun (17 May), Ratcliffe is ready to back Amorim, but remains concerned the Portuguese coach could walk away from Manchester United, regardless of what happens against Tottenham on Wednesday.
This would be a major blow for United as it would leave them searching for yet another permanent manager at Old Trafford.

Tottenham must seize upon United’s form
Tottenham’s results in the Premier League have virtually mirrored United’s despite fielding much weaker teams in recent weeks.
Postecoglou’s run-in hasn’t been ideal, with injuries to key midfielders hampering their creativity, but they should be optimistic that they could rest key players ahead of this tie.
The turmoil surrounding United’s hierarchy, along with their inability to produce on the pitch, means Spurs might never get a better opportunity to etch their names into the history books.
