Robbie Savage reacts to ‘Incredible’ Ange Postecoglou sack news at Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou is under immense pressure at Tottenham, and his job could be riding on the upcoming Europa League final.

Tottenham will face Manchester United with all to play for, as both sides go head to head to salvage their embarrassing domestic seasons.

Spurs and United are somehow in the two spots above relegation in the Premier League, and the loser of the final will miss out on European football entirely next season.

Robbie Savage has given his verdict on the Europa League final and Postecoglou’s future beyond it.

Ruben Amorim is also under pressure at Manchester United after their woeful form since he joined, and the Europa League final could be make or break for both managers.

Savage has now expressed his surprise that both managers could still be sacked despite potentially winning a European trophy, regardless of the seasons they have had.

“What is most incredible, bearing in mind that one club will lift a trophy in Europe and qualify for the Champions League next season, is neither manager is 100 per cent certain to survive even if he wins it,” Savage wrote in The Daily Mirror (17 May, page 63).

Spurs will face United in Bilbao on Wednesday, 21 May, with the winner qualifying for the Champions League, and the loser set to end one of their worst-ever seasons on an incredibly sour note.

Tottenham have Postecoglou decision to make regardless of Europa League final

Even if Spurs win the Europa League, a lot of fans are sceptical that Postecoglou should be the manager to lead them next season.

Victory in Bilbao would be historic, as it would be Tottenham’s first trophy since 2008, but to many, this domestic season has been unforgivable.

Tottenham are the lowest non-relegated side in the entire Premier League, and have lost an astonishing 21 of their 37 games this season.

Postecoglou’s style may hold them back in the Champions League next season, and the decision over his future must not be wholly swayed by one game after a truly miserable year.
