Richard Keys sends ‘North London’ message after huge Tottenham win

Tottenham came out victorious in their Europa League quarter-final on Thursday, seeing off Eintracht Frankfurt with a 1-0 victory.

It was Dominic Solanke who made the difference with a penalty just before half-time in Germany, which gave his side a 2-1 win on aggregate.

The Lilywhites progress to face Bodo/Glimt in the semi-finals as Ange Postecoglou continues in his pursuit to save his future in North London.

Richard Keys speaks out after Tottenham win

Tottenham may be having a disastrous season, but the Europa League seems to be their saving grace.

Although a trophy would not solve all the issues at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, ending a drought without silverware would surely lift morale somewhat, as well as deliver Champions League football.

Furthermore, as the pressure continues to build on Postecoglou with regard to what his future holds, the Australian has certainly kept himself safe for now.

It wasn’t the most dominant performance from Tottenham away from home but getting through to the next round was all that mattered to those in White.

Admittedly, when North London rivals Arsenal are seeing off Real Madrid in the Champions League in the same week, it does serve as a reminder of how different the two sides’ seasons have been.

Nevertheless, Richard Keys was quick to take to X to congratulate Postecoglou’s men as much as the Gunners, as he posted (17 April): “Another North London triumph. Top class Spurs.”

Postecoglou still under pressure at Tottenham

Victory for Tottenham was the main thing on Thursday night, and the Lilywhites delivered what was asked of them, so they should be relieved.

Postecoglou was looking likely to get the sack from Tottenham if he hadn’t progressed through to the semi-finals of the Europa League, highlighting just how much pressure he is under.

While he may be safe for now, there is no guarantee that the boss will still be here next season, even if he did go all the way to lifting a trophy.

Coming into the game, Spurs lost 4-2 against Wolves in Premier League action and sit fifteenth in the table, just two points above seventeenth.

Monday (21 April) sees a return to league action with a game against Nottingham Forest, a side who have had a much better campaign this season and are managed by former Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

While there should be celebrations for progression in Europe, Spurs have to be ready to turn their attention quickly to their next clash, otherwise things could quickly turn miserable again.
