Previous results revealed as Tottenham draw familiar foes in Champions League

Tottenham have learned their opponents for the group stage of the 2025/26 Champions League.

Spurs won the Europa League in May, granting them access to the competition for the first time since the 2022/23 season, in their debut for the new format.

Thomas Frank is hoping to lead his team to a historic season and will be aided by the arrivals of Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha this summer.

Spurs are also attempting to sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig, who had been expected to join London rivals Chelsea.

Frank is hoping a positive end to the window can match his strong start to the Premier League season, after Spurs beat Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium last week.

Spurs to face familiar opponents in Borussia Dortmund

Spurs will face eight different opponents in the Champions League group stage, having met six of the eight on previous competitive occasions.

Borussia Dortmund present a familiar opponent for the North London club, with six previous meetings played out with the German outfit.

Spurs are ahead by three wins to two losses with the Bundesliga team, the last match taking place in 2019, with a Harry Kane goal enough to earn the win.

Spurs lost on penalties to PSG in the Super Cup earlier this month, but will have a chance to avenge the loss at the Parc des Princes in what will be only the second ever meeting between the sides.

Bodo/Glimt and Eintracht Frankfurt are both opponents that Ange Postecoglou’s side beat on their way to Europa League glory last season, and Spurs will face both sides again this season.

Slavia Prague were opponents in the 2006/07 and 2007/08 editions of the UEFA Cup, with the Premier League side winning on three of the four occasions.

More recently, Spurs have played AS Monaco in both the Europa League and the Champions League, winning in the former, but losing both games in the following 2016/17 season.

Lastly, Villarreal and FC Copenhagen represent two opponents who will face Tottenham for the first time this season.

Spurs can be happy with Champions League group

Whilst games against Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain will be difficult, Spurs will be confident that they can pass through the new system with flying colours.

An important factor to also note for Frank will be that his side has not been drawn away against Kairat Almaty.

The Kazakhstani team are set for their first-ever Champions League campaign, which would have come with a gruelling 24-hour round trip for Spurs, should they have drawn them.

Either way, more depth is needed to aid this run before Monday’s transfer deadline.
