Premier League make early announcement on Wolves v Tottenham drama at Molineux
Ange Postecoglou was left fuming as his Tottenham side crashed to yet another Premier League defeat against Wolves on Sunday.
Spurs were blown away with a quick-fire start from the Midlands giants as Rayan Ait-Nouri put the ball in the back of the net, which was followed by a very lengthy VAR check.
Wolves were left smiling in the aftermath as the goal was given the all clear and they took the early lead, despite complaints from Guglielmo Vicario.
A Djed Spence own goal, with further strikes from Jorgen Strand-Larsen and Matheus Cunha, condemned Spurs to an embarrassing 4-2 defeat at Molineux.

Premier League make announcement on Tottenham
Postecoglou was left furious about the early goal after a matter of minutes, but also because VAR didn’t side with them after the footage was looked at in detail.
VAR did intervene, initially looking at a possible offside, but that was cleared, and the goal was able to stand for the Midlands side.
Stats | Wolves | Tottenham |
Possession | 37% | 63% |
Total Shots | 13 | 11 |
Fouls | 12 | 15 |

It was deemed that Vicario wasn’t impacted by anyone, and that allowed Ait-Nouri to find the back of the net and give Wolves a perfect start.
The Premier League Match Centre wrote on X: “The referee’s call of goal was checked and confirmed by VAR – with Munetsi in an offside position but deemed not to be impacting Vicario’s ability to play the ball.”
Postecoglou sack pressure continues to grow
The result was another disastrous one for Postecoglou as the pressure continues to grow on the Australian coach, who has failed to impress throughout this season.
Spurs are languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table, and could realistically finish as low as 17th this season if results continue going the way that they are.
Tottenham are relying upon the Europa League to salvage their season at this point, and that’s a competition that may also save Postecoglou’s job.
The Lilywhites are struggling massively in the Premier League, and the Spurs boss was handed the remit of guaranteeing European football for next season, which will not happen via the normal route.
Instead, the only way for Spurs to do that is by winning the Europa League, but disappointing results such as this in the Premier League are doing nothing to alleviate the pressure that Postecoglou is under.
All eyes are on Frankfurt on Thursday.
