Postecoglou sack update emerges after unacceptable Tottenham development

Ange Postecoglou is under pressure at Tottenham after losing to AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League.

AFAS Stadion hosted Postecoglou’s team on Thursday (6 March), and the North London outfit suffered a 1-0 defeat in the first leg of the round of 16.

Lucas Bergvall’s own goal was enough for Spurs to lose in the Netherlands as they now have work to do at home on 13 March.

With the Europa League the only realistic opportunity of silverware this season, the hierarchy aren’t happy with the recent result.

Tottenham yet to inform Postecoglou of sack decision in case of Europa League failure

Spurs haven’t told Postecoglou he will be sacked in case of Europa League failure, according to TBR Football.

The news outlet reports (8 March) that the North London outfit are yet to inform the Australian manager about his dismissal if they are eliminated from the European competition.

It has been claimed that the Lilywhites have made it clear, though, that losing to AZ was unacceptable, and they were deeply concerned by the performance.

While Daniel Levy has backed the former Celtic boss until now, it remains to be seen whether defeat at home against the Dutch outfit will change that.

Levy to pull plug on Postecoglou at Spurs

Postecoglou has nowhere to hide at Spurs after the embarrassing defeat to AZ in which they were unable to create many opportunities.

The Australian manager has been marred by injuries this season, but some of the results in recent weeks have been appalling.

With the North London outfit out of the Carabao and FA Cup, their hopes of ending the 17-year trophy drought have diminished.

While Spurs were one of the favourites in the Europa League when the round of 16 draws were announced, losing to AZ has evidently damaged their chances.

The former Celtic boss has been reluctant to change his tactics at the Lilywhites despite several injury issues at the back, and his reluctance to do so may be detrimental.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Levy pull the plug on the 59-year-old’s tenure at the North London outfit if they don’t win the European competition.

The Spurs faithful will have no sympathy for Postecoglou if he continues to lose games.
