Postecoglou sack: ‘Tottenham squad shocked’ by Son Heung-min developments
Tottenham players were “shocked” after Ange Postecoglou dropped Son Heung-Min earlier this month, according to the Daily Mail.
Sami Mokbel reports in the newspaper’s print edition (page 72, 21 January) that the Australian manager took the risk in an attempt to stamp his authority on his underperforming squad.
The former Celtic man is under heavy pressure at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after a run of just one win in ten Premier League matches.
The report claims that his decision to drop the South Korean forward for the 2-1 loss to Newcastle (4 January) raised eyebrows amongst the squad, with consequences mooted as he continues to face the sack.
Should Tottenham sack Postecoglou?
It is clear that his message is not getting through to the players at this point, there seems to be a divide between the squad and their manager.
Whether he has lost the dressing room or it is a result of having to rely on youngsters due to the injury crisis as suggested by Micah Richards is another question.
If it is the former then it is only a matter of time before he departs the Lilywhites because as Graeme Souness argued, it comes down to a straight financial decision and it is easier to replace one man than multiple assets. [Daily Mail]

However, he is still in the job, so maybe the Australian still has the backing of the North London club’s key players but for how long that continues, is anybody’s guess.
One thing is for sure, results need to improve, one win in ten league matches is unacceptable for a club of Spurs’ stature.
If they do not, Postecoglou will find himself looking for a new job shortly.
