Postecoglou sack: Tottenham axe news drops ahead of must-win Brentford clash

Ange Postecoglou is the bookmakers’ favourite to be the next Premier League manager sacked ahead of Tottenham versus Brentford.

Spurs will travel to the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday (2 February), knowing that anything less than three points could end Postecoglou’s tenure.

The Australian is under increasing pressure at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with his side sat in 16th place and only seven points clear of the relegation zone.

According to Sky Bet, Postecoglou is once again the favourite to be the next manager sacked at 8/15 odds, with Leicester City boss Ruud Van Nistelrooy not far behind with 2/1 odds.

This is considered a surprise of sorts given Van Nistelrooy’s Leicester were thumped 4-0 by Everton on Saturday (1 February).

Tottenham must beat Brentford to save Ange Postecoglou

It is indeed now or never for Postecoglou at Tottenham.

Ian Darke was concerned that the 2-1 loss at home to Leicester City on 26 January could have been the “final straw” for the boss, but he has been given ample opportunity to save his job.

The Carabao Cup semi-final at Anfield will have severe ramifications for his future should he survive the weekend – a trip to Wembley could turn around the fortunes in North London.

Despite the supporters growing wary of results, Postecoglou has received backing from ex-boss Harry Redknapp, who is hopeful he can steady the ship before it sinks.

Postecoglou has endured a rough spell, with several key starters suffering long-term injuries leaving the boss with a depleted squad to navigate a hectic January schedule.

Furthermore, chairman Daniel Levy has repeatedly failed to strengthen the squad throughout the winter transfer window, with main targets rejecting a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Regardless, Brentford are notoriously difficult to beat at the Gtech, but Postecoglou knows his future rests on securing the three points.
