Postecoglou sack: Thierry Henry makes brutal Tottenham claim in Arsenal comparison
Thierry Henry has said he doesn’t want to see Tottenham sack Ange Postecoglou but to progress they must stop focusing on Arsenal.
Spurs are having a difficult season but a 2-0 win over Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium leaves them sitting 15th in the Premier League, but an abysmal run before that piled the pressure on Postecoglou.
However, there have also been counter questions from many over whether the club can progress under the ownership or Daniel Levy or whether he’s holding the side back with a lack of investment.
Henry doesn’t feel sacking the manager is the way to go but has questioned the overall mentality at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, accusing them of focusing too much on their rivals as he said live on Sky Sports Premier League (2 February): “Look, as a coach myself, that’s the last thing you want to see is a coach losing his job.
“You know, we talk about the percentage of the two, we talk about new stadium. At the end of the day we are in this game to win and so obviously people are going to say because I’m Arsenal I’m talking like that about Tottenham.
“But at the end of the very day, what is the philosophy and identity of the club? When I was a player, the Spurs fans only concentrated on Arsenal.
“Concentrate on yourself, if you’re focused on Arsenal then you’re not doing what you’re supposed to do.”
Ange Postecoglou on thin ice at Tottenham
Henry’s comments will no doubt get under the skin of some Tottenham supporters who will feel this is an unfair comparison, citing Arsenal as being able to get into the heads of their rivals so much.
However, the concern over the mentality at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has to be considered with a number of players and the hierarchy seemingly not prepared to give everything to push the team forward.
Unfortunately for Postecoglou, football dictates success based on results and these have been well below expectations for much of the Lilywhites’ season leaving questions over his future.
Furthermore, his failure to adapt his side to suit the players he has had available throughout the campaign has surely had some impact on why things are going poorly in North London.
While there are a number of ongoing issues both on and off the pitch at Spurs, their current position probably comes down to a combination of multiple things.
With this in mind, Levy has plenty to fix if he is going to be the man to oversee success at Tottenham.
