Postecoglou sack: Thiago Motta odds shift after major Tottenham development

Ange Postecoglou is under massive pressure at Tottenham after his side fell to yet another defeat, and replacements are already being mooted.

Tottenham fell to a humiliating 4-2 defeat at Wolves in their last game, which made it an astonishing 17 defeats in 32 Premier League games this season.

Postecoglou’s last hope of keeping his job rests on whether his side can win the Europa League, but this looks a tall order given their dismal performances all season.

Former Juventus manager Thiago Motta is among the names linked to replace Postecoglou, but there has now been an unexpected development regarding his future.

Motta less likely to replace Postecoglou at Tottenham

In recent weeks, bookmaker’s odds were slashed on Motta joining Tottenham to replace Postecoglou, and he even jumped up to second place on their reported shortlist.

However, the odds of the Italian moving to North London have now decreased, and Oddschecker have revealed that he is now the seventh-favourite to take over at Tottenham this summer.

That comes amid a major development coming out of Italy suggesting Motta is now second, behind Andoni Iraola, on Tottenham’s list of targets.

Motta achieved a remarkable feat at Bologna as he led them to Champions League qualification in Serie A before joining Juventus, but he endured a disastrous spell at The Old Lady before he was dismissed last month.

Is Motta the right fit for Tottenham?

Many would question the appointment if Motta was to replace Postecoglou at Spurs, because of how badly his stint at Juventus went.

While his Bologna side played entertaining football on the front foot, it was a different story at Juventus, who have remarkably drawn 14 of their 32 games this season.

Juventus under Motta were turgid, and the failures of Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho at Spurs indicates that the former Inter midfielder could follow the same path.

Most Tottenham fans are resigned to the fact that most managers will follow the same fate of failure at the club while Daniel Levy is in charge, and this may even be off-putting for younger coaches such as Motta if offered the job.
