Postecoglou sack: Terzic lined up after Tottenham embarrassment

Edin Terzic remains the favourite to succeed Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

The Australian remains under immense pressure in North London and has done himself no favours with Daniel Levy after relying on extra time to see out a 3-0 win against National League outfit Tamworth in the FA Cup on Sunday (12 January).

Following the result at The Lamb Ground, Terzic, who was already the favourite, has seen his odds drop further to become the new Spurs boss to only 10/3 [Paddy Power].

Former France boss Didier Deschamps and Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna are close behind, with 8/1 odds to take the reins in North London [Bet Victor].

Edin Terzic favourite to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham

Postecoglou will be forced to contend with constant sack speculation this year unless results improve at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The 1-0 win against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday (8 January) was undoubtedly a step in the right direction.

However, playing 90 minutes against a side four tiers below in the English football pyramid without scoring a goal will bring more questions than answers despite securing a 3-0 win.

Furthermore, Terzic is gunning for Postecoglou’s job – Besiktas presidential candidate Serdal Adali revealed to Tivibu Spor (28 December) that the German expects to become the next Tottenham boss.

While such talk is merely speculation at this stage, not many supporters in North London would object to a Champions League finalist taking charge with qualification to the competition this year, which looks unlikely.

Spurs are sitting in 12th place in the Premier League, 12 points adrift of fourth-place Chelsea and with a trip to the Emirates in the North London derby next on the agenda (15 January).

Although Postecoglou survived the FA Cup scare unscathed, the performance left a lot to be desired, and he will need a resounding display against Arsenal next week to ease the growing tension at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
