Postecoglou sack pressure increases at Tottenham as ex-PL manager flags issue

Alan Pardew is the latest to express his concerns over Ange Postecoglou’s reluctance to tweak the system at Tottenham following their draw with Wolves on Sunday.

Tottenham dropped another two points on 29 December with a 2-2 draw against Wolves, which saw the Premier League release a statement after the controversy of a penalty decision.

Ultimately, the decision had no impact on the game with Son Heung-min missing the spot-kick, which piled extra pressure on Postecoglou. who has faced criticism for his tactical stubbornness from ex-Premier League manager Pardew.

Speaking on talkSPORT (29 December, 8:08 pm), Pardew explained: “My issue really at Spurs is not changing, as we spoke many times, and all the fans talk about it.

“All the pundits talk about it, about adapting to the fact that you’ve got a young midfield player (Archie Gray) playing centre-back and just tweaking your system a little bit and protecting them.

“And that’s where I think they struggle.”

Postecoglou only has himself to blame for Tottenham failure

Although injuries have plagued the season for Spurs, Postecoglou’s unwillingness to move away from his desired style of play has been detrimental in most encounters in recent weeks.

Players are being asked to carry out roles that are just not suited to their own key attributes and for the wider team performance, it is having a pretty daunting effect that just about everyone can see, aside from Postecoglou.

Changes need to be made at Spurs and quickly – and there are two real options. Either Postecoglou accepts defeat in his bid to have them playing a certain way, or he faces the pending sack, which at this stage is looking like the best option if the club are to progress.

Unfortunately, he just doesn’t appear to have the necessary attributes capable of changing the fortunes at Tottenham and with many fans already fed up, he would face an almost impossible task in an attempt to win back the trust of the fanbase.

With the January transfer window approaching, the coming weeks may be all about the right decisions being made as the club look to bounce back after a dismal league campaign to date.
