Postecoglou sack: Major Thiago Motta development emerges at Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou is under serious pressure at Tottenham, and they may have now identified another potential replacement for him.

Tottenham have endured a miserable campaign, with the Lilywhites currently 14th in the Premier League, and the Europa League is now their last hope of securing European football for next season.

Postecoglou is under massive pressure even if Spurs win the Europa League, and as it stands, he looks likelier to leave at the end of the season than to stay.

Several names have been linked, and one big name from Italy has now jumped up the potential shortlist.

Thiago Motta on Spurs list to replace Postecoglou

Recently sacked Juventus manager Thiago Motta has now been linked with a move to Tottenham, and he is now reportedly higher up the shortlist of candidates than before.

Tuttosport (10 April) have reported that Motta has jumped up to second place in Tottenham’s list of candidates, and is only behind Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola in terms of desired managers.

Would Thiago Motta be good for Tottenham?

Motta was a legendary midfielder in his playing days, with the Italian featuring for Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona among others.

His first foray into management saw him enjoy a great spell at Bologna, in which he led them to the Champions League spots, while his team fully bought into his style of play.

He got the best out of players such as Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee, but it was a different story at Juventus.

Although they remained unbeaten for a lot of the season, Juventus have drawn 14 games, and the football was turgid under Motta.

Some may argue Motta was dealt a bad hand in terms of his squad, but he would encounter similar issues at Spurs right now, and it is questionable whether such a drastic stylistic change from Postecoglou would be easy for him to implement.

It is unclear whether Motta would consider managing in England, but prior to his Juventus spell he was one of the most promising young coaches in Europe, and could have the personality to help inject some life into the team.
