Postecoglou sack: Lopetegui and Tottenham manager odds crash after West Ham news
Julen Lopetegui is now the leading contender to be the next manager sacked after West Ham lost to Liverpool and Tottenham drew with Wolves.
Ladbrokes have priced Lopetegui as the 4/5 favourite to be dismissed by the Hammers before any other manager in the Premier League after their 5-0 home defeat against the league leaders on 29 December.
Before that game, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou was the 3/1 favourite to be sacked next but on the same day, the North Londoners were held to a 2-2 draw by relegation-threatened Wolves.
Ladbrokes have still slashed the odds on Postecoglou going to 11/8, meaning it’s extremely likely that the next Premier League manager to go will either be him or Lopetegui.
Will Tottenham sack Ange Postecoglou?
Based on recent form and the way the market is looking, it does seem likely that Daniel Levy will pull the trigger and axe Postecoglou.
Bigger names have fallen before him with Spurs in seemingly better positions.
Mauricio Pochettino was sacked in November 2019, just months after reaching the Champions League final because his side sat 14th in the league.
In April 2021, Jose Mourinho was axed after 17 months in North London just days before a Carabao Cup final against Manchester City with the club sat seventh in the league.
Antonio Conte was next to be given his marching orders by Levy in March 2023 when Tottenham were fourth in the league.
Postecoglou has essentially promised silverware this season but his side are 11th in the league and are closer to the relegation zone than they are the top four.
However, the Aussie’s men are in the Carabao Cup semi-finals and are on course to reach the latter stages of the Europa League.
Levy might see how the Carabao Cup semi-finals go before a decision is made but the Spurs chairman’s patience must be wearing thin.
