Postecoglou sack: Levy ready to ‘pull the rug’ with ideal replacement ready

Stan Collymore believes Daniel Levy could be readying himself to pull the rug from underneath Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham.

Postecoglou has been under some severe scrutiny this season due to the poor form that Spurs have found themselves in.

At the moment, they’re 12th in the Premier League table and are level on points with Crystal Palace and Everton.

Postecoglou has been on the brink of being sacked for the last few months and Collymore believes his days in North London could be numbered.

And his perfect replacement could already be lined up.

Andoni Iraola to be the man to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham

Andoni Iraola and Bournemouth have been one of the 2024/25 season’s surprise packages with the Cherries currently fifth in the Premier League.

At the moment, they’re only one point out of the top four spots but that hasn’t stopped Tottenham from placing him at the top of their shortlist, should Postecoglou be relieved of his duties [talkSPORT].

And Collymore, writing for CaughtOffside (20 February) offered an insight into where he thinks Levy stands with the future of the Australian in North London.

“For Tottenham, is Ange Postecoglou a league title-winning manager or a regular top-four manager,” he wrote.

“Will he get the same amount of years as Mikel Arteta has had at Arsenal? I doubt it, because Daniel Levy always looks to pull the rug and then get the new shiny manager to walk through the door.”

Andoni Iraola could be perfect for Tottenham

Even though Iraola has only really started to make his name in football over the course of the 2024/25 season thanks to the impressive performances of the Cherries, it feels like he could bring a lot to the table if Levy brought him in.

His team have been solid all-round with their defensive capabilities often one of the best parts of their game.

While Tottenham have had plenty of struggles in the defensive department this season, that’s likely due to the sheer amount of injuries that Spurs have faced.

Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero are among the players who initially spring to mind when thinking of long-term injuries at Tottenham and without them in their starting XI, the cracks have really started to show.

However, once everyone is fit and raring to go, Iraola could be the perfect man to come in and bring them back to their best and, eventually, potentially transform the back four into one of the best in the league.

Only time will tell what the future has in store of course but on paper, it’s hard to see many better options than Iraola for Tottenham.
