Postecoglou sack latest: Tottenham exit odds slashed overnight amid farcical scenes

Ange Postecoglou may have moved one step closer to facing the sack at Tottenham, according to the latest bookmakers odds.

The Australian head coach has come under fire throughout the season, with Spurs sitting 14th in the Premier League.

Even further pressure has now begun to build on the 59-year-old after his side fell to a 4-0 defeat against Liverpool in the League Cup semi-final second leg.

There was plenty of excitement going into that clash at Anfield, already 1-0 up on aggregate, but ended with Postecoglou facing plenty of criticism.

Ange Postecoglou could soon face the sack

After suffering such a heavy loss in such a big game for the Lilywhites, it can’t come as a surprise that the ex-Celtic boss is facing questions about his job.

Spurs just needed a draw on Merseyside to confirm their place in a final for the first time since 2021 but instead fell to a sizable defeat.

This has reflected badly on the Australian, whose odds of being the next manager sacked have been shortened to 4/6 [William Hill].

This places the Lilywhites’ head coach ahead of the likes of Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ivan Juric at relegation-threatened sides Leicester City and Southampton, respectively, to lose their jobs.

If this doesn’t prove the issues that Postecoglou is facing in North London right now, then nothing else will.

Tottenham shouldn’t sack Postecoglou after Liverpool defeat

There is no doubt that the two-time Scottish Premiership winner has questions to answer about the result and the way things played out at Anfield.

With that being said, there are so many injury concerns which have left his side a shadow of its former self and has piled pressure on the young guns in the Spurs squad.

The likes of Lucas Bergvall, Pape Sarr and Archie Gray are now firm members of the first team with the latter making 31 appearances already this season despite being just 18 years old.

As a result, there was already going to be issues for the manager in N17 and changing the manager at this stage isn’t necessarily going to help that.

It will certainly be interesting to know what Daniel Levy makes of the situation and whether he plans on pulling the sack trigger in the coming days or weeks.
