Postecoglou sack latest: Journalist shares what he’s been told about Daniel Levy

Ange Postecoglou is looking ahead with nerves at Tottenham as his future as boss remains uncertain.

It has been a dismal season for the Lilywhites, although Europa League action has left Postecoglou in his post, with a trophy on the cards.

However, sitting 16th in the Premier League table, there are serious questions being asked of the Australian, suggesting victory in Europe will not be enough to keep him in north London.

Daniel Levy has Postecoglou choice ahead

As the season starts to wind down, Daniel Levy has a key decision to make ahead of the summer transfer window regarding Postecoglou’s future.

Although the choice could be dependent on European success, it seems increasingly likely that a sacking is a matter of when rather than if.

The chief needs to be prepared to make a call, though, so he can be ready to strengthen in the summer transfer window, knowing how big the off-season will be in north London.

Writing for the Daily Mail (27 April), Riath Al-Samarrai made no secret of his admiration for the boss’ desire to play a certain type of football, bringing excitement to the top flight.

However, Al-Samarrai noted that while this is a key component of Postecoglou’s thinking, Levy is very much a numbers man instead and can see that things are not adding up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Therefore, despite deserving plaudits if he does bring a trophy to Tottenham and end their drought, Postecoglou will be seeing a new challenge in the summer.

Postecoglou has not done enough at Tottenham

Tottenham supporters have been crying out for a trophy for some time now and if Postecoglou was able to deliver that, he should rightly gain praise for doing so.

However, Premier League form does matter too and just how badly the Lilywhites have done this season has been concerning, with any chance at European football next season resting solely on the Europa League campaign.

Although Spurs have had to contend with injury issues that have left the squad heavily depleted at times, Postecoglou has to take some responsibility, too, and his consistent style of play leaves questions over whether he is aware of those drawbacks.

Levy has to stop the rot at Tottenham starting in the summer and it’s hard to see how he does so without making big changes, especially following reports of fallout with the likes of James Maddison.
