Postecoglou sack latest: Daniel Levy ultimatum revealed, Andoni Iraola ‘ready’
Ange Postecoglou is running out of time to save his job at Tottenham as Daniel Levy gets down to work.
Tottenham succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday (16 March), thus suffering their 15th Premier League loss of the season.
This is the most number of losses they have suffered in a single league season since the 2008-09 campaign, meaning they are looking at one of the worst seasons in their history with nine matches left to play.
Therefore, it is no wonder that Postecoglou’s future has become a major topic of discussion at Spurs.
Here, Tottenham News rounds up the latest news from Monday (17 March) relating to the Greek-Australian manager.

Wayne Rooney calls out Postecoglou
Tottenham’s performance against Fulham have been put under the microscope, with Wayne Rooney calling out Postecoglou for his team selection.
Speaking on Match of the Day 2, the England legend expressed his frustration with the Spurs boss for not picking his best starting line-up [BBC, 16 March].
The manager notably left the likes of Son Heung-min, James Maddison, Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven out of his team to face Fulham – a decision that came back to haunt him.
Darren Bent moots Thomas Frank for Tottenham job
With Postecoglou’s future up in the air, pundits and fans have been speculating who Spurs’ next manager might be.
Darren Bent has mooted Thomas Frank as a potential candidate to replace the former Celtic boss if the North London giants decide to sack him [talkSPORT, 17 March].
However, the Danish tactician is only one of three managers on the former Tottenham player’s wishlist.

Andoni Iraola ‘ready to take over’
Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva have emerged as the early favourites to take the reins at Tottenham if Postecoglou leaves, as Bent wished [Telegraph, 17 March].
Bournemouth are keen to tie Iraola down to a new contract at the Vitality Stadium, but the manager would be open to taking charge of Spurs.
Manager | Current Job | Games | Points Per Match |
Postecoglou | Tottenham | 87 | 1.59 |
Frank | Brentford | 308 | 1.51 |
Iraola | Bournemouth | 78 | 1.49 |
Silva | Fulham | 174 | 1.60 |
Meanwhile, there are doubts over Silva’s future at Fulham, meaning he could also be open to moving to North London.
Levy ‘holds Postecoglou talks’
Despite all that, it is worth noting that Tottenham have not made a decision to sack Postecoglou yet.
Levy is said to have already met the 57-year-old in the wake of the defeat against Fulham and given him an ultimatum to keep his job [TBR Football, 17 March].
The Spurs chairman has set qualification for European football as the minimum requirement for Postecoglou this season.
He is aware that sacking the manager will not have a drastic impact on the team’s results at this stage in the season.
