Postecoglou sack: Kieran McKenna twist emerges after Tottenham loss v Arsenal

Kieran McKenna has emerged as the new frontrunner to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

The Australian remains under immense pressure after the 2-1 loss against Arsenal at the Emirates (15 January) despite Daniel Levy reportedly giving the boss a vote of confidence after the North London derby defeat [Football London].

Following the result, Ipswich Town boss McKenna has leapfrogged previous frontrunner Edin Terzic to take the reins at Spurs with 6/1 odds [Bet Victor].

Terzic is close behind with 9/2 odds [Paddy Power], while Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso crops up as a surprise candidate with 8/1 odds [Bet Victor].

Kieran McKenna favourite to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham

Postecoglou is struggling to get it right at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Despite taking a 1-0 lead through Son Heung-min, the visitors equalised via a Dominic Solanke own goal, and four minutes later, Leandro Trossard completed the turnaround.

If not for the 1-0 win against Liverpool leaving Tottenham in a promising position to reach the Carabao Cup final, the Australian would undoubtedly be heading back Down Under.

There is certainly too much back-and-forth with Postecoglou, and should the inconsistency continue, Daniel Levy will pull his itchy trigger finger.

However, McKenna is hardly the man to bring excitement back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, although he has exceeded expectations somewhat with Ipswich, his side are back in the relegation zone.

Spurs should keep a close eye on the developments at Everton and West Ham United, who recently replaced their managers, before a crucial decision is made during the season – the grass is not always greener.

Regardless, should McKenna find himself in North London, the supporters will hope he brings in-form forward Liam Delap with him.
