Postecoglou sack: Carragher drops Tottenham verdict before Everton clash
Jamie Carragher has predicted the pressure on Ange Postecoglou to increase further if Tottenham lose to Everton on Sunday afternoon.
The Toffees welcome Spurs to Goodison Park on 19 January, with David Moyes hoping to secure his first victory since returning as manager for the first time in 12 years.
Postecoglou, however, is without a victory in the Premier League in five matches, including recent defeats to Newcastle United and Arsenal, as well as a 2-2 draw with Wolves.
Speaking via Sky Sports [19 January], Carragher said: “I think because of how poor Everton have been, if they lose here, the pressure will be cranked up on the manager. You don’t want to see that.
“I love watching Postecoglou’s teams play, and continually say that they’re the most entertaining team to watch in the Premier League, whether it’s good or bad, but it’s really poor run of form.
“You can even trace it back to last season. We just need to wait until Tottenham have their players back fit but for the manager, they’ll have to have a really strong second half of the season.”
Ange Postecoglou pressure ramps up before Everton v Tottenham
Supporters have every right to be frustrated with their team’s current form, especially considering the incredible amount of talent within the squad right now.
Of course, the Lilywhites have been plagued by injuries this season, with Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, Guglielmo Vicario and Rodrigo Bentancur all unavailable star players.
Brennan Johnson, Fraser Forster, Timo Werner, Wilson Odobert and Yves Bissouma have all been added to the list of absences, so many fans are choosing to cut the manager some slack.
However, after Spurs were taken to extra time in the FA Cup by National League side Tamworth, the pressure on Postecolgou was at an all-time high, understandably.
If the Lilywhites do somehow drop points at Goodison Park on Sunday, Daniel Levy may have no other choice but to find another manager, who can take this team forward.
In other Tottenham news, this is how Ange Postecoglou could soon line up with Marcus Rashford leading the line.
