Postecoglou right to be angry with Bissouma at Tottenham after what was said

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou voiced his frustrations with Yves Bissouma after the defeat against Fulham on Sunday.

The Lilywhites travelled to Craven Cottage on 16 March and fell to their second Premier League defeat in the past three games.

Goals from Rodrigo Muniz and Ryan Sessegnon proved to be the difference as tensions boiled over in the away end as Mathys Tel acted as an intermediary.

Postecoglou was clearly fuming but has been backed after showing his anger towards Bissouma after his showing in West London.

Troy Deeney backs Postecoglou after Fulham defeat

The Australian head coach wasn’t holding back in his post-match press conference as he slammed the Mali international for his “lack of confidence”.

This came after Bissouma put in a largely poor performance and failed to have any sort of positive impact for Spurs as his side fell to defeat.

As a result, it was little shock to see the 28-year-old come off at half time to be replaced by Lucas Bergvall, in a swap that didn’t exactly change the tide.

Regardless of this, Deeney has backed Postecoglou and believes the former Brighton midfielder was more focused on outside factors rather than football.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (18 March, 06:39am), he said: “I can understand his [Postecoglou’s] frustration with Bissouma because I have the same frustrations.

“There’s a player in there but he’s so lackadaisical. He’s more worried about what he looks like, he’s wearing an arm sleeve and kicking the ball out of play every time he gets it so I understand that.”

Bissouma could now exit Tottenham

When it gets to the point where your own manager is calling you out for poor performance, a departure is probably moving ever closer.

Given that the likes of Pape Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur are likely to be ahead of Bissouma in the pecking order, a sale could make sense for all parties.

Deeney is right in what he is saying when it comes to a lack of care from the Malian who has struggled in recent weeks to perform at an adequate level.

This saw him dropped in the Europa League second leg against AZ Alkmaar, being trusted with just 12 minutes of action in North London.

This almost sums up exactly the issue that Postecoglou has with the midfielder and the final straw could be the showing at Craven Cottage.
