Postecoglou ‘pushes himself closer to sack’ after what he’s said about Tottenham
Ange Postecoglou has been living on borrowed time at Tottenham for a number of months now, and his latest comments certainly will not help his cause.
The Australian had an encouraging first season in North London, having previously impressed at Celtic, but has lost the backing of the fanbase amid a tumultuous domestic campaign.
Indeed, Postecoglou’s actions on the touchline against Chelsea may well be the final straw when looking back on his tenure.
The Europa League is widely considered to be the only reason Postecoglou remains in a job, with a quarter-final against Frankfurt to come over the next fortnight.
However, defeat to lowly Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday (6 April) may mean he does not even make it that far.
Postecoglou hits back after Chelsea defeat
If nothing else, Postecoglou is certainly not one to hide his thoughts. But comments made to reporters ahead of the Southampton match just seem bizarre.
Former Celtic manager Postecoglou suggested he is the only person who defends Tottenham, who are given unfair coverage among their peers in his view.

The 59-year-old spoke to reporters for 40 minutes on a number of topics, but the general vibe was he is a man who is now at the end of his tether and has simply had enough.
Among other topics, Postecoglou defended himself from “bully” supporters, many of whom have now turned their back on him, and suggested he is being misrepresented by some.
Tottenham will soon be looking for new manager
Postecoglou’s latest comments, combined with his actions at Stamford Bridge, smack of a man who knows he is close to being sacked.
With Tottenham predicted to finish 14th in the Premier League with just 45 points – their lowest return in a couple of decades – there can be zero complaints.
Assuming Tottenham overcome Southampton this weekend, chairman Daniel Levy then looks certain to give Ange the double-header with Frankfurt to keep both this season and his job intact.
Beyond that, though, it is now increasingly clear that there will be a new manager in the dugout come the start of 2025-26.
