Postecoglou faces ‘serious’ sack threat on Sunday, ‘Tottenham dressing room lost’

Ange Postecoglou could be set to face the sack at Tottenham on Sunday as pressure continues to build.

The Australian head coach has come under fire once again this season after falling to a 1-0 defeat against Chelsea on Thursday (3 April).

The Spurs boss was seen cupping his ears to supporters after Pape Sarr’s chalked-off goal before coming across bitter in his post-match interview.

Now, Postecoglou will be hoping for a stroke of luck on 6 April as his job continues to be on the line in North London.

Postecoglou could face sack after Tottenham v Southampton

If things weren’t bad enough for the Lilywhites, they go into a clash sitting 16th in the Premier League after West Ham secured a point on Saturday (5 April).

This just adds to the doom and gloom surrounding N17 as protests against Daniel Levy look to continue at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This comes ahead of a clash against bottom side Southampton who will be desperate to avoid a season to rival Derby County’s 11-point record.

With that being said, there is little to gain against the Saints while being plenty to lose for Posteglou who needs to secure a win.

A defeat would see the ex-Celtic boss see his side go into their most important game of the campaign against Eintracht Frankfurt with confidence ‘through the floor’ in North London.

This has seen The Standard suggest on 6 April that a negative result could “prompt serious consideration” about the future of the Australian.

A defeat against Ivan Juric’s side would be further proof that Postecoglou has lost the dressing room, especially after already losing at home to Ipswich Town and Leicester City this season.

Tottenham must sack Postecoglou if Southampton win

There aren’t many worse sides in the history of the Premier League than Southampton so a defeat would be disastrous by every metric.

It has been one of the worst seasons in recent memory for the Lilywhites but somehow Postecoglou has remained in his job to this point.

A defeat against the Saints would surely prove to be a failure too far for the Aussie, who is beginning to lose the support of the fanbase.

It will be interesting to see if Levy has the strength of mind to pull the sack trigger on the Spurs head coach or if the Frankfurt game will take priority.
