Postecoglou drops biggest Tottenham exit hint yet in new interview

Ange Postecoglou’s future is up in the air as Tottenham’s season is coming to its climax.

Tottenham must navigate a tricky trip to Villa Park before hoping to beat Brighton at home on the final day of the season if they are to improve on their 17th-place standing in the Premier League.

The chance to lift the Europa League trophy is also on the horizon, but it may not be enough to save the Australian’s job following an extremely demoralising campaign.

Daniel Levy is already considering his options regardless of the result at the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao next Wednesday (21 May).

Postecoglou to keep winning “wherever it may be”

Postecoglou has continuously backed himself in the face of adversity, doubling down on the achievements that brought him to North London.

Speaking to Sky Sports News (16 May) ahead of the Europa League clash against Manchester United, the manager referenced how this has allowed him to stay focused on the task at hand, leaving him to ignore questions about his future.

He said: “I would never allow myself to miss an opportunity that is right before me by thinking beyond that. It’s just not the way I am wired.

“All I am thinking about is the possibility of doing something special in the next seven days. Beyond that, everything will take care of itself.

“I keep saying that I’m blessed to have the life I do. I love what I do. I love winning things and hopefully I can win something else again to add to what I have done before.”

However, Postecoglou did tellingly go on to say: “[Hopefully] I will continue winning in the future, wherever that may be.”

Postecoglou’s stats at Tottenham 24/25 season

The former Celtic coach’s famous quote about always winning something in his second season could still be proven true, but recent weeks have seen him reference the uncertain future in a more open manner.

Postecoglou’s case for the defence

Tottenham have played a colossal 57 games this season, due to be 60 by the conclusion of the season, which has coincided with an unprecedented injury crisis.

Levy’s policy on targeting young players has not helped Postecoglou’s cause, leaving him short handed to tackle the pressures of multiple competitions.

A 4-0 second-leg loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup detracted from the fact that they had beaten the Premier League champions in the reverse fixture, having also overcome both Manchester clubs en route to the semi-final.

With the club just one game away from achieving their first piece of silverware since 2008, Postecoglou would in some ways have achieved more than some people would give him credit for.
