Postecoglou delivers Kulusevski injury update after Tottenham v Crystal Palace

Tottenham were beaten by Crystal Palace on Sunday, and matters were made worse as Dejan Kulusevski suffered a fresh injury setback.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were beaten for the 20th time in the Premier League this season as Crystal Palace ran out 2-0 winners at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 11 May.

Postecoglou made wholesale changes in North London as several key players were rested.

However, the Australian was still handed an injury scare after Kulusevski was forced off in the first half.

Kulusevski suffers knock v Crystal Palace

Tottenham will travel to Bilbao to contest the UEFA Europa League final against Manchester United at the Estadio de San Mamés on Wednesday, 21 May.

Therefore, supporters would be forgiven for feeling incredibly stressed after seeing Kulusevski limp off against Crystal Palace, and Postecoglou has now shared an immediate update on the Swede.

Speaking after the defeat against the Eagles, Postecoglou said [via Alasdair Gold, 11 May], “He [Kulusevski] should be ok. Just talking to him after. The medical team are not too concerned about him. It was just a knock.”

Tottenham supporters can breathe a sigh of relief

Postecoglou is already without James Maddison and Lucas Bergvall for the Europa League final.

Therefore, the last thing that Tottenham need is for Kulusevski to also be unavailable for what is the North London club’s biggest game in six years.

Kulusevski is likely to be the replacement for Maddison in the starting lineup against United. As a result, it is even more important that Postecoglou has the 25-year-old available.

Therefore, supporters would have been delighted to read Postecoglou’s injury update on Kulusevski. However, Tottenham aren’t out of the woods just yet.

On multiple occasions this season, players have taken longer to return from injury than expected, and with less than two weeks to go until the showdown with United, fans will be hoping this isn’t the case with Kulusevski.

In addition, only a matter of hours have passed since the injury incident. Therefore, the picture will become clearer as the days go by.
