Postecoglou delivers concerning Son Heung-min injury update

Tottenham supporters are unlikely to be encouraged after Ange Postecoglou’s latest injury update on Son Heung-min.

Postecoglou secured his biggest win as Tottenham manager as his side beat Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 at Deutsche Bank Park on Thursday (17 April) to reach the UEFA Europa League semi-final.

As a result, Postecoglou is expected to be afforded time by Daniel Levy, and the mood is likely to be much more positive around Hotspur Way.

However, a recent update on Son could dampen those spirits.

Postecoglou shares latest on Son at Tottenham

Spurs were dealt a blow ahead of the clash with Frankfurt as Son was ruled out by injury.

Not only could the 32-year-old not feature, but he was also unable to travel to Germany with Tottenham.

As a result, concerns emerged that Son’s injury might be a serious one, and Postecoglou’s latest update on his captain is unlikely to have eased those concerns.

While speaking ahead of the Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday (21 April), Postecoglou was asked for a timeframe on Son’s injury.

And the Australian responded, saying, “Not really sure, something he’s been dealing with for a while, and we got to a point where it wasn’t improving and it was deteriorating.

“So it’s a good time to give him a bit of a rest.” Postecoglou went on to add that Son would be unavailable for the clash with Nottingham Forest, while James Maddison was also likely to miss out.

Son will hope to return for Europa League semi-final

While he hasn’t been at his best in recent months, Son remains one of Spurs’ most influential players.

Therefore, Postecoglou will be desperate to get the forward back in time for the first leg of Spurs’ Europa League semi-final against Bodø/Glimt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday (1 May).

Son’s experience and leadership could be crucial in that match, and although he has been inconsistent this season, the South Korean knows where the back of the net is and can produce a big goal. As a result, having him available would be a huge boost.

However, if Son isn’t able to return in time, Postecoglou won’t want to use this as an excuse, and the 59-year-old will expect the other forwards in the squad to step up and fill the hole left behind by Son.
