Postecoglou backs Pochettino to become Tottenham manager after latest sack news

Ange Postecoglou remains under threat at Tottenham, with Mauricio Pochettino a potential candidate to replace him.

Tottenham will be fixated on achieving success via the Europa League given the failures they have showcased domestically this season.

With Postecoglou under heavy scrutiny to keep his job in North London, Spurs simply need to progress in the competition to have any chance of keeping his job, though question marks will still emerge over his future.

However, if Daniel Levy does pull the trigger, an adequate replacement will be needed, and Postecoglou believes Pochettino could be a good option to make a return.

Pochettino could replace Postecoglou at Tottenham

Many would have anticipated Postecoglou to have been sacked by now, but Levy has kept his faith in the Australian to deliver a trophy to North London, though it is believed he could still be sacked at Tottenham even if that is achieved.

Pochettino has already emerged as a potential candidate to take over at Spurs, and Postecoglou hopes that the Argentinian is afforded another shot at the role.

As quoted by The Standard, Postecoglou said: “If [Pochettino] wants to come back one day, I hope it happens for him. We all have dreams and aspirations. I don’t feel disrespected.

“Nothing for me to be consumed with, I’m focused on making sure we try to win tomorrow night.”

Both managers have priorities of their own, and only when their fate is decided will Tottenham be able to make any decision on their future, if there is any to be had at all in North London.

Tottenham need to get the next appointment right

Regardless of what happens in the coming weeks, it feels inevitable that this season will be Postecoglou’s last in charge of Tottenham.

However, Spurs will need to ensure that the next appointment is one that is capable of taking them back to a side capable of challenging at the top, while having contingency plans in place.

Tottenham have a huge summer ahead, and a failure to get the big decisions right could prove costly.
