Postecoglou accused of going too far with Tottenham comments by ex-PL manager

Alan Pardew has accused Ange Postecoglou of going “too far” with comments made after Tottenham fell to a defeat at the hands of Newcastle United.

Tottenham’s season continued to spiral against Newcastle, with a 2-1 defeat leaving supporters with more questions than answers yet again.

The performance left a lot to be desired and piled even more pressure on Postecoglou, who was ridiculed for his comments by Pardew.

After the game, the Spurs boss claimed: “On a fair and even playing ground, we would have won” [Sky Sports].

That was in reference to some of the contentious decisions made in the encounter, but Pardew has accused Postecoglou of going “too far” with his remarks.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (5 January, 8:08 pm), the ex-Premier League manager said: “All I would say is that I’ve been in [Postecoglou’s] position in that you feel there are lots of things that are unjust, that the world is against you.

“He’s not happy with the way the game’s panned out and the referee, and he got those words stuck in his mind. He just went too far with it. The Premier League scrutiny gets you like that.”

Ange Postecoglou running out of excuses at Tottenham

While you can definitely make a case for some decisions going against Spurs in the encounter with the Magpies, one game doesn’t define what has been a dismal Premier League season and the majority of that is down to the Lilywhites boss.

His unwillingness to adapt and failure to call a spade a spade is doing Tottenham no favours and if anything, is causing a constant regression which supporters have every right to be fed up with.

His comments after the defeat even led to Gary Lineker mocking him and it’s hard to argue against the justification of his comments.

Things need to change urgently for Spurs if they are to see any signs of progression and it is becoming increasingly unlikely that it will be spearheaded by Postecoglou.

The next few weeks will provide a telling factor as to how the remainder of the campaign will pan out for Spurs amid the speculation of the transfer window.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou is set to be the subject of an FA investigation.
