Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg sends message to Guglielmo Vicario after shocker vs Fulham
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has sent an encouraging message to Guglielmo Vicario in light of his disastrous performance against Fulham.
Tottenham suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.
After Spurs’ 4-1 loss to rivals Arsenal, the Lilywhites have won just one of their last five league games.
While it is clearly a collective issue, Vicario has shouldered most of the blame due to his mistake for Fulham’s second goal.

Guglielmo Vicario takes responsibility for defeat to Fulham
Vicario was largely at fault for Tottenham’s defeat to Fulham after a failed clearance saw Harry Wilson double Fulham’s lead into an open net.
The Italian international had tried and failed to dribble out of his penalty area and get the Lilywhites upfield.
It was a rookie mistake, and one that meant Spurs went two goals down inside six minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Vicario later took to Instagram on 29 November, where he both apologised and took responsibility for his mistake.
He said: “I take full responsibility for the second goal we conceded. Moments like this hurt, especially when the results aren’t going our way.
“Now more than ever, it’s time to fight even harder and give everything for this club. COYS.”
Former Tottenham star Hojbjerg commented a simple “🤍” under the post in support of the crestfallen keeper.
Thomas Frank has been under pressure at Tottenham after several disappointing results. But it’s at times like this when it’s realised that the real issue is greater than the manager.
Guglielmo Vicario is not fully at fault
While the decision to dribble in the final third was an oversight on Vicario’s part, it is unclear why none of Spurs’ defenders thought to defend the goal line.
The entire action took around 30 seconds, and not one defender sprang into action when the keeper came out of his box. While a minor point, it does highlight the current incompetence within the Lilywhites’ defence.
Moreover, Tottenham had 84 minutes to come back at home, but only looked threatening deep into the second half.
- Tottenham created two of their three big chances in the second half
- The Lilywhites took 12 shots compared to Fulham’s two during the second period
- Only two of their 14 shots were on target
Vicario may have been at fault for the second goal. But given their plethora of opportunities, it remains a mystery why Spurs’ only goal of the game was the result of a moment of individual brilliance from Mohammed Kudus.
