Paul Merson stunned by Google controversy ahead of Arsenal v Tottenham

Paul Merson is stunned by the Google controversy involving Sol Campbell ahead of the Premier League clash between Arsenal and Tottenham on Wednesday.

There has been a lot of talk about the latest Google advertisement featuring Campbell, who can be seen taking a dig at Spurs by referencing his controversial free transfer to the red side of North London in 2001 in the video.

As Ange Postecoglou and Co visit the Emirates Stadium on 15 January, Merson took to social media to extend his support towards the Gunners while also chiming in on the Google controversy.

“No, you didn’t, Sol Campbell. COYG!”, Merson wrote on X (15 January).

Tottenham will hope to have a last laugh v Arsenal

The Google advertisement with Campbell has nothing to do with Wednesday’s North London derby.

Instead, it used the backdrop of the winter transfer window to prompt viewers to make the switch to Google’s Pixel phones like Campbell did in 2001.

However, the timing of the wind-up will surely add a little bit more spice to the clash at the Emirates Stadium.

With Spurs and their fans on the receiving end of the dig, it remains to be seen if Postecoglou and Co can ensure they have the last laugh when the referee blows the final whistle.

Tottenham will have the chance to hand another blow to Arsenal’s title hopes while boosting their own chances of securing a top-four finish.

It is worth noting that Arsenal earned a 1-0 win when the two sides met at Spurs’ home in September.

Therefore, reasons are aplenty for Tottenham to cause an upset at the Emirates Stadium and get revenge on Mikel Arteta’s side.
