O’Hara blasts Postecoglou after Tottenham loss v Arsenal, delivers sack verdict

Ange Postecoglou cannot expect to keep his job at Tottenham after losing half of the Premier League games this season, according to Jamie O’Hara.

O’Hara rubbished claims that Daniel Levy has not backed Postecoglou enough since he took the reins in North London in 2023, although he understands Spurs need to strengthen further.

However, the player-turned-pundit is of the view that the Greek-Australian manager has no excuses for losing 11 of his 21 league games this term and said he should be sacked if Liverpool knock Tottenham out of the EFL Cup.

“People are saying Daniel Levy has got to back the manager. Well, he has been backed, he brought in players he wanted”, O’Hara told Grosvenor Sport (16 January).

“Maybe he needs more, I get that, but you can’t say we ain’t spent no money.

“You can’t lose 11 games in the Premier League and be where we are in the table, and expect to stay in the job.

“I’m so torn between whether he should be in or out.

“If we go out of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool, if we get thumped – we are 1-0 up [after the first leg] and it was a good performance – if Liverpool beat us, he’s got to get the sack.”

Ange Postecoglou running out of time at Tottenham, Daniel Levy call pending

O’Hara cannot be blamed for running out of patience with Postecoglou as Tottenham find themselves sitting 13th in the Premier League.

It is worth noting that Spurs are closer to the relegation zone than they are to the top four, while even West Ham United, who changed their manager this month due to poor results, have moved above them in the table.

Therefore, the former Celtic manager is quickly running out of time, leaving Levy with a decision to make regarding his future.

As O’Hara said, the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final against Liverpool at Anfield on 6 February could determine Postecoglou’s future with Spurs.

However, there are no guarantees that the 59-year-old will still be in charge of the team at that point.

Levy must give serious thought to sacking Postecoglou if he fails to earn a victory over relegation-battling Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, 19 January.
