Micky van de Ven ‘needs surgery’ after latest Tottenham injury update – reaction

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Micky van de Ven is unlikely to feature for Tottenham against Liverpool on Thursday.

Tottenham are without several key players heading into the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final clash at Anfield on 6 February, with Radu Drăgușin the latest to be ruled out after suffering a season-ending ACL injury.

And it looks as though van de Ven is also unlikely to feature on Merseyside.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Postecoglou said [via Football London, 5 February], “With Micky and [Cristian] Romero to a certain extent, it’s about being conservative with them. Micky got through the 45 minutes but he feels he’s not ready yet for the step up to the Premier League.”

Micky van de Ven to miss out for Tottenham v Liverpool?

Postecoglou is heading into potentially the biggest game of his managerial career on Thursday. Therefore, not being able to name van de Ven – who is such a key player for the club – in the starting lineup would be a big blow.

However, despite the 23-year-old’s importance to the team, it seems as though some fans would be willing to let the defender go as a result of his contact injury struggles, while another has suggested that surgery might be required.

While van de Ven’s constant injury setbacks are frustrating, Spurs could come to regret their decision if they were to sell the centre-back. However, if he were to have surgery, that could fix any underlying issues and provide a long-term solution.

Therefore, it seems as though the club and the player have a big decision to make.
