Micah Richards stunned by James Maddison and Son Heung-min moment in Tottenham win

Micah Richards was stunned by a sensational moment from James Maddison as Tottenham beat Manchester United on Sunday.

Spurs beat Man United 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (16 February) as the 28-year-old scored in the 13th minute.

The English midfielder started for the North London outfit and pulled the strings in the middle of the park before being substituted for Brennan Johnson just after the hour mark.

Maddison has struggled to find consistency at Spurs but was one of their best players against the Red Devils.

Richards was stunned by one particular pass Maddison played to Son Heung-min during the win over Ruben Amorim’s team.

The former Manchester City defender believes the England international has the qualities to be the difference maker in N17 when he is consistently fit.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football (17 February), Richards said: “Maddison can make the difference.

“He’s a quality player. When he’s fully fit, he can unlock the door with his passing. One of his passes today was sensational. I think it was down to Son on the left-hand side.

“It was nice to see him back in full flow.”

James Maddison needs to be consistent

Maddison dictated Tottenham’s play against Man United consistently as he was afforded a lot of time and space in the middle of the park.

In recent months, the Englishman has come under heavy criticism from pundits and fans alike as he has failed to have the necessary impact.

Ange Postecoglou has found himself in the doldrums in N17, with questions being raised about his future after several negative results.

It looks like the Australian manager has bought himself some time after getting the three points against Amorim’s team.

Maddison seemed to aim a dig back at Roy Keane with his celebration after he called him out this week.

The Spurs fans will be delighted to see the 28-year-old in high spirits, and there will be hope among the fanbase that he can continue to be the difference maker going forward.

While the North Londoners are nowhere near where they should be in the Premier League table, injuries have played a big part in their lack of success this season.

It remains to be seen whether the Lilywhites will be able to build on the win over Manchester United and get the better of Ipswich Town on 22 February.
