Micah Richards sad as Ange Postecoglou sack verdict drops at Tottenham
Ange Postecoglou’s poor season at Tottenham took another turn for the worse on Sunday when Spurs were beaten 4-2 by Wolves.
Tottenham’s defeat at Molineux saw the North London club slip to 15th in the Premier League table after Everton beat Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Postecoglou has now steered Spurs to 17 defeats in the top flight, while his side has managed to win just one of their last five games in all competitions.
But Sunday’s encounter, in which they conceded four goals to a Wolves side who sit just 16th, marked rock-bottom in what has been an embarrassing year.

Micah Richards slams Spurs players as he defends Postecoglou
Tottenham appear increasingly unlikely to finish in the Premier League’s top half, while their only chance at silverware comes in the Europa League, where they face the tricky task of an away trip to Frankfurt in the second leg of their quarter-final.
Opponent | Result |
Chelsea (A) | 1-0 L |
Southampton (H) | 3-1 W |
Frankfurt (H) | 1-1 D |
Wolves (A) | 4-2 L |
Spurs’ largely woeful campaign has led owner Daniel Levy to eye potential replacement options for Postecoglou, such as Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola.
But speaking on the latest episode of The Rest Is Football [14 April], Micah Richards defended the Australian as he criticised Tottenham’s players: “How many times have we said [about] Spurs players? They’ve got Johnson, and they’ve got Solanke and Romero’s back, and Van der Ven’s going to be back, and Udogie’s back.
“But they’re not performing at the level required for Spurs, and everyone can talk about Spurs, but these players are way better than they’re showing now, and they need to do a lot better because it’s looking bleak.
“It’s looking bleak for the future for Ange, for the club, and it’s sad to see because I genuinely believe he’s a very good manager.”
Tottenham players must take responsibility
Tottenham fans are rightly unlikely to agree with Richards that Postecoglou is a very good manager, as he has steered the North London club to a shocking position in the Premier League.
Amid Spurs’ poor form, perhaps it would not be a surprise to see Postecoglou’s men slip behind Wolves and West Ham in the top flight and down to 17th position, which would surely see the boss face the sack.
Vitor Pereira’s men have now won each of their last four games after their big win over Spurs, while Tottenham have not managed back-to-back wins since February.
After coming close to a Champions League spot last season, Postecoglou’s men have been a mere shadow of themselves this campaign and have not displayed the quality among their ranks.
Albeit Tottenham have encountered a series of injury problems this term, a side that boasts quality attackers such as Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson and talented defenders such as Cristian Romero should be performing significantly better.
It’s all coming to an end in North London for Ange.
